FAQ For Character Registration:
.Q. What does Alleigiance mean?
.A. It refers to whether your character is allied with The Order, The Templars, or some one else (or no one at all). For more information, please see this page.
.Q. What Does Ethnicity mean?
.A. Ethnicity in this case refers to the specific country your character was born into as well as the cultural group. For instance, a Welsh person would have been born in England, but their ethnicity would be "Welsh". Likewise, a slave may have been born in Turkey but their ethnicity could be "Lithuanian" or "Libyan".
.Q. Does the Assassin's hidden blade count as a weapon for your weapon slot?
.A. Yes. All assassins must carry a hidden blade of some variety and it does count as one of your two weapons.
.Q. Does hand to hand combat/fists count as a weapon for your weapon slot?
.A. No. If your character is well versed in hand to hand combat you may still carry two weapons in addition to this skill.
.Q. Does my character HAVE to carry a weapon?
.A. No, although this would be a very foolhardy decision for such a character. Remember that during the Renaissance, it wasn't very likely that any sort of law enforcement could come to your aid immediately if you were attacked. Most people would at least carry a dagger or hunting knife unless they were fully certain that some one else they were traveling with could protect them instead. If you would like to keep one or more of your weapon slots empty, simply put "None".
.Q. Does my character have a title?
.A. If your character is nobility, affiliated in some way with The Church or a religious organization or a doctor, then yes. Likewise, if you are a high ranking assassin or templar, yes. Otherwise, no. If you need help with your specific title, please post in the Questions and Suggestions board.
.Q. What does Incognito mean as it applies to the application?
.A. Incognito means whether or not your character is in hiding and has a clear reputation. For instance, character of nobility would likely be recognized by multiple people and have many people know his name. A character who was a thief would likely keep a low cover and not be recognized by many at all. It does NOT mean that your character is or isn't an undercover assassin or templar. It is assumed that all assassins and templars are undercover for the most part, as they are both secret societies.
.Q. Is my character a land owner?
.A. If your character owns their own house or shop, then yes. Likewise, if your character is nobility, then yes. If your character lives primarily in an assassin den, an inn or in an otherwise shared space, then no.
.Q. My character is female. Is she still a land owner?
.A. If your character has a husband, brother, or father who owns the property that your character lives on, then she is still considered a land owner. Also, a woman who actually owns land is also, obviously, a land owner.
.Q. My character is a gypsy/trader/nomadic/traveler and owns a caravan. Is he/she still a land owner?
.A. No, your character is not considered a land owner.
.Q. Why is it important to know whether or not my character is a land owner?
.A. During the Renaissance, whether you owned land or not said a lot about your social status and wealth. If you were poor but owned land you were still considered "better" than your counterparts who possibly had the same amount of money as you or more but did not own land. Therefore, it's important for players to have access to this information for general playing knowledge.
.Q. What is the difference between country of birth and country of residence? Aren't they the same?
.A. These options are mostly there for those people who were originally from another country and then relocated to another country.
.Q. What is the difference between country of birth and ethnicity? Isn't this information redundant?
.A. Slavery was still common during the Renaissance and while not all countries allowed or endorsed slavery it is still possible that a character could be of a different ethnicity than the place they were born in. The Ottoman Empire typically enslaved Christians and Africans in the lands that they conquered, meaning it was entirely possible that you could be one particular ethnicity that is not the native ethnicity of that country.
.Q. My character is an atheist/agnostic. What should I list for religious affiliation?
.A. First, keep in mind that atheism and agnosticism are relatively new schools of thinking. While the Assassins in particular had schools of thought that were "before their time", that does not mean that every single Assassin was not religious. Many Assassins adapted their own religions to fit the Creed or held on to them for cultural reasons. Despite this, if your character is actually agnostic or an atheist, realize that heresy is a punishable crime at this point in history. In order to maintain a low profile, agnostic or atheist characters would be forced to attend church occasionally and maintain the appearance of keeping a religion to avoid being arrested. If this is the boat your character is in, you should specify that your character is either agnostic or atheist but then also specify what their cultural religion or fake religion is as well.
.Q. What are some things that should be included in my appearance? I've already covered the basics of my physical appearance and it is nowhere near two paragraphs!
.A. Appearance is more about how your character is perceived in game. Descriptions of any significant pieces of jewelry or clothing belong here, as well as descriptions of your weapons or any bags your character carries often. Descriptions of animals that your character travels with (often) may also go here. If your character has an accent that should also be mentioned in this section.
